Video of the Week: “Crime Wave”

EDITOR’S NOTE 01/14/12: Sigh. The video has been removed by the user. Sorry about that, folks.

Gosh, I got so excited about the Paths of Glory: Anatomy of a Film project that I almost forgot it’s Wednesday and that means it’s time for the Video of the Week! This week we take a look at Andre De Toth‘s Crime Wave (1954), one of the best crime dramas/films noir ever. An uncredited Timothy first appears at about 8:37.

Also check out part 5 as well. Tim certainly got everyone’s attention with this very early example of his scene-stealing abilities. Compared to some actors today, his performance seems downright restrained, actually. I believe the low-key quality of the performances around him was a major factor in making him stand out – in addition to his essential “Timothy Carey-ness,” of course.

  1. Like Brando and his mumbling, Carey’s intense delivery demands that you pay close attention. Pair that with the way he looked, and how could he not steal a scene?
