Pic of the Day: “The Boy and the Pirates” revisited

Our pic for this Saturday (and I’m sure I needn’t remind you to click to embiggen) is an original still from Bert I. Gordon‘s The Boy and the Pirates (1960). Tim’s gruff pirate Morgan is menacing young Jimmy (Charles Herbert).

In his autobiography The Amazing Colossal Worlds of Mr. B.I.G., Gordon relates that a mysteriously unnamed “pirate actor” was fired from the production for being a bit too rough with young Herbert. I asked him about it, and he confirmed to me that the unidentified actor was, indeed, Tim. I have no doubts that whatever happened was accidental and that Tim meant no harm. I don’t think he knew his own strength sometimes.
